Issues on professional future and career, as well as the processes of searching, choosing and mastering a profession are among the most important in every person’s life. The COVID-19 pandemic has caused a very difficult situation in the labor market, where today’s graduates and students in the social sciences and humanities are in the most vulnerable position. The article presents the results of our sociological research, which was devoted to the attitudes of undergraduate students studying social sciences at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation regarding future employment and career. The research set of tools include a mass questionnaire survey and focused group interviews with first- and fourth-year social sciences and mass communications students, which provided a fairly detailed answer to the question of how students assess their career prospects after graduation and how they intend to act to achieve career success. Despite of the fact that the study participants quite highly estimate their chances of employment, the main obstacles for them are the lack of work experience, great competition in the labor market, as well as fairly high requirements of the employer. The key conclusion is the idea of the need to include students in labor relations from the first days of study at the university, which can be implemented by providing students with the opportunity to work part-time in their specialty, engaging them in paid research projects at the university, as well as developing and implementing special training programs aimed at familiarizing students with the nuances of the profession, potential employers, ways to monetize the knowledge obtained at the university
