There are active discussions on the problems of everyday life of the modern society in foreign and Russian social and humanitarian science. The paper uses the approach, according to which, the population’s family values are considered as the most important aspect of everyday life; this determines the scientific novelty and originality of the study. The study applies both general scientific methods (abstract-logical, typological and categorical analysis, generalization) and methods and techniques of sociological research (analysis of results of a questionnaire survey). It is proved that the most accurate is the definition presented in the studies of P. Berger and T. Luckmann, where everyday life is defined as a reality, which is interpreted by people and has subjective significance for them as a whole world. It is revealed that in the context of everyday life the family and family values rank top in the Russian society and abroad. The study of results of sociological measurements showed that traditional life meanings and guidelines rank first for the population: the hierarchy of the most important values is headed by the values of family, health, children; registered marriage is a significant institution for the majority. It is proved that as a result of the transformation of society family values (for example, the values of having many children, a large multi-generational family) undergo significant changes. It is concluded that people have developed a firm conviction of an ideal model of a family with two children, while half of the respondents do not consider “many children” a value that is absolutely dominant in family relations. The research materials presented in the article can be used by regional and local authorities for developing methods and tools to regulate the demographic situation, the principles and directions of demographic policy; they may be interesting for discussion in the scientific community and educational activities
