Abstract   |   Authors   |   References
One of the aspects of studying the health of the younger generation is analyzing the parameters of neuro-psychological child development. In Russia and in the Vologda Oblast mental and behavioral disorders, as well as other neurological disorders are the leading causes incapacitating the younger generation, which increases the importance of studying the parameters and factors in neuro-psychological child development. The most widespread are several approaches of studying these issues. Among them, only the adaptation approach emphasizes the need to consider social context when evaluating neuro-psychological child development. The research has been performed with the application of statistical and adaptation approaches. The informational basis included works of Russian and foreign researchers, government statistics and data from monitoring of child health conducted by the Institute of Socio-Economic Development of Territories of RAS since 1995. From the example of the Vologda Oblast it has been established that doctors’ and parents’ evaluation of neuro-psychological child development does not vary significantly, but a certain pattern is observed: parents are more likely to believe that their children develop ahead of their age (the cohort born in 1995 – 2–4%; in 1998 – 4%; in 2004 – 4%). At the same time, the majority of parents note that their children are retarded (for example, the cohort born in 2004 – 1% of paediatricians and 4% of parents). This pattern is preserved in all cohorts during the survey period. The revealed differences may be associated with parents’ lack of competence, as well as with the fact that medical practice uses statistical or psychopathological approaches to the evaluation of neuro-psychological development. This may lead to a certain neglect of the child’s behavioral and psychological abnormalities, which a local pediatrician is unaware about. The factors which might have a negative impact on child health and development are also intense academic load and domestic conflicts, the frequency of which increases as children reach their early teens (13 years old). The obtained results may be used by experts of educational institutions, health care institutions and government authorities for developing measures aimed at creating of a sociocultural environment favorable to child development
