The article provides an analysis of the life world of modern students based on a survey of students at the Russian University of Transport. The relevance of the problem is due to the focus on a holistic understanding of collective goals, behavioral motivations, and moods of young people in their relationship. This goal is achieved through social modeling. Three modes of the life world: the need for existence, the need for connections, and the need for growth are combined into a model that promotes a holistic understanding of the problem. The method of modeling the life world determined the novelty of the approach to the study and made it possible to arrive at significant results. The modes of the model are closely intertwined. The needs for existence act as a significant guideline when young people build their own life trajectory. The need for connections is realized quite fully: students do not experience problems in communication. They highly appreciate the level of relationships both within student groups and between students and teachers, and employees of dean's offices. Their life world is filled with communications, both in the real social environment and in the virtual space. The need for growth acts as a motivator: students often feel a lack of resources for self-realization, which can serve as the basis for dissatisfaction with life in some of them. They would like to be more active in real socio-political actions, but they lack both the opportunities and political literacy for this. The life world of students can thus be imagined as a space with material foundations, permeated with communications, with needs for self-realization and inclusion in socio-political activities
